The Best Baby Names is a free baby name explorer that helps parents find the perfect name. Filter by gender, cultural origin, and personality traits like classic vs. modern, refined vs. rugged, and more.

Data Attribution

All name data is sourced from Behind the Name (behindthename.com), a comprehensive database of given names from cultures around the world. The dataset includes name genders, cross-cultural variants (synonyms), and crowd-sourced personality ratings across 14 dimensions.

This data is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This means:

• Attribution — Credit must be given to Behind the Name as the original source of the data.
• ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon this data, you must distribute your contributions under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

How It Works

The site is fully static — all filtering and scoring happens in your browser. No data is sent to any server. Your saved names are stored in your browser's local storage.

Cultural origin tags are inferred using heuristic rules (name patterns, known name lists) and may not always be accurate. The “vibe” sliders use crowd-sourced ratings from Behind the Name users.

Privacy

This site collects no personal data. There are no analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts. Everything runs client-side in your browser.
